Plumbing pipes in older homes are typically made out of galvanized steel. It is recommended when remodeling to replace galvanised piping to copper pipe. Also, when the shower walls are exposed it is a great opportunity to switch out the rough in valve and install a new drain. Porcelain, marble and other stone fixtures are particularly popular in bathrooms, although cold iron, brass, and even gold or silver is also popular.
